Anyone know which IR sensor would work best for measure low altitude over grass? Ultrasonics appears to be useless to the scattered random reflection but I have heard IR works good.

Ultrasonics are used successfully for low altitude sensing in several mid to high end commercial UAV packages, specifically for autonomous landings.
Over lenghty, straight, solid runways only.
