APM fly away issue

Hi guys, i need some help and advise on the APM fly away issue. i did 3 flight yesterday with my DJI F-550 frame and APM2 flight controller. first flight is doing fine but issue arise on my 2nd and 3rd flight.

during the 2nd flight, when i switch my APM from altitude hold mode to stabilize mode. the craft suddenly drop altitude in a free fall speed. i manage to recover from the fall 2 ft above the ground with full throttle after 20 meters of drop.

on the 3rd flight, i took off with stabilize mode and hover above around 3 meters height and switch on the altitude hold mode. immediately after switching, the craft fly straight up like pushing in full throttle and started to fly backwards. i tried all means of control but no way gain control. try switching back to other mode and it doesn't help. out of a sudden, the craft drop and crash into the woods.

after recover the craft from the woods. i found out that there is a "mode error" in the log at the point of switching the mode for both flight.

do any of you guys facing the same issue or error from your APM? greatly appreciate for any advise.

  • Without logs, we can't help much, but did you analyze your log files to properly set the THR_MID value like in Randy's video?  That's a good place to start.

      • From a quick look, your GPS is not working at all.  I think that may be why you're getting the flight mode 5 errors.  You barometer has massive noise on it.  Is the APM well protected from light and air?  Fix the GPS problem first and make sure your barometer has the black foam over it (inside of its case).

RTL, loiter, altitude-hold etc can't possibly work with no GPS.

        • Hi Scott,

thanks for the advise. currently i'm using a APM 2.0 which I believe the barometer is below the onboard GPS. i have check the GPS LED signal and ensure that it is lock before takeoff. could it be the APM faulty? or sensors / GPS faulty?

    • i will try to post the log file when im back home
