Hi,
I have now more or less finished my ArduCopter and am starting to configure the APM. I have downloaded and installed the software. Right now I am trying to connect to APM in order to perform the described tests here: http://code.google.com/p/ardupilot-mega/wiki/CLI
I have:
- Installed drivers and configured the com-port as described, (Windows XP)
- In arduino; selected the AtMega 1280 board, selected the correct com port and selected baudrate and carriage return as described.
- restarted the laptop and APM a few times
I do however not receive any responce from the APM when I type commands in the serial monitor, (except for a brief flash on a orange led).
Any ideas?

did you move the switch (SW2) to the back?
do the status LEDs run slowly?
Permalink Reply by brakar on December 27, 2010 at 3:03pm The SW2 switch is moved towards the pin-headers as prescribed in the manual. The leds on top of the board is:
- one steady blue, on the oposite side of the usb plug
- one steady green, next to the magno. plug
And you successfully loaded RC2? (not RC1, which doesn't have a CLI). Because from the screenshot above, it really looks like you're running ArduPilotMega (which is just for planes).
Also, the link you provided above was for APM, not ArduCopter.
I think at some point along the way you accidentally switched to the wrong wiki and now you're loading code for an entirely different project. I'd love to know where this happened, so we can clear up any bad links.
Permalink Reply by brakar on December 27, 2010 at 3:24pm I am running whatever was preloaded at the fahpah store. (I have the pre-installed kit). Nothing else have been installed.
RC1 (which doesn't have a CLI) was pre-loaded. We've released RC2 since the first batch of ArduCopters were released. Please download and install that.
I'm still confused by why you're showing ArduPilotMega on the Arduino screenshot above and linked to a CLI page on the ArduPilot Mega manual. That's an entirely different project.
The ArduCopter manual is here.
Permalink Reply by brakar on December 27, 2010 at 3:36pm Well this probably explains things. I will start from the beginning, using the correct manual.
How I got linked into the the ArduMega stuff I can't tell.
Permalink Reply by brakar on December 27, 2010 at 7:19pm Now, after some struggeling with signing of drivers etc, I have installed new USB/FTDI-drivers and uploaded new firmware to the autopilot. CLI works fine, but I am unable to connect to the ap with the configurarator software. When it tryes to connect, the led's on the ap blinks like mad, but no connection.
The com port is set in accordance with the manual, laptop is re-booted, but still nothing.

Permalink Reply by brakar on December 28, 2010 at 2:21am Well, the answer should actually have been no. The switch was in the pos. described in the manual, which has apparently been changed in the new firmware.
(I allready dislike this switch. Would even have been better with two separate usb connectors for different purposes).
Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The third round was a reliablilty/aerial photography round for both planes and copters, which is now closed. Stay tuned for the next round, beginning soon.18 members
