I'm sure technically you could but its unlikely you will find anything using those bands for UAV control being sold by anyone so that may mean having to design and build it yourself. That itself might lead to problems in the size of the receiver and the intended plane. The radio range of such a setup would be far more than anything us Xbee users could hope for. If you do find a way make sure you also have standard RC gear attached just in case.

Hi Chris,
Expect lot of QRM if not QRN , of course the only advantage/disadvantage would be power & few additional bands allowed but then some one elsewere with higher ant+power might be able to hi..ck ur uav if not sucessfully crash it first( read all the "same freq /channel conflict stories at flield".
Thomas UHF RC modules are exception to example.
SSTV or FSTV may be ok , but again expect every one with ticket be able to watch ur vid stream.

There's an overlap between the 2.4 GHz Amateur Radio allocation, and 2.4 GHz ISM band that WiFi uses; check out amateur radio "hinternet".

Hmm, you *could* do that, but I think a UDP connection on 802.11b channel 2 (channel 1 would be better, but it's reserved for satellite operations) would work better. I've flown a Linksys WRT54GL router, but not on anything as small as an EasyStar. Antennas and amplifiers are an issue. Especially antennas -- it's easy to get cross-polarized and lose your link.

QRP!! Then what would be the point of having the ticket if you can't pump few more watts then every one else ;) , any case still would not resolve the QRM problem , .. RTTY?!1 what about APRS? cheap interface r available and add VXR2 or VXR3 and you have pretty good range if APRS repeater coverage is available

Oh thank god, somone else wants to. :) I have had a terrible time getting info on this. The best I've come up with, is prove that 50mhz RC gear exists, its just hard to find, and expensive when you do, but feasibly COULD be ran through a 6 meter amplifier.
As for amateur TV, I looked into that as well. 5 watts for 200 bucks, but as aforementioned, anyone can watch it. You just tune a cable ready SD TV to the right channel.

Then, I also found a telemetry thing for HAM, or really any audiio stream, that is really cheap and uses an Atmel chip. My eventual goal is to send telemetry over the audio stream for the HAMTV. ;) Its just Packet radio, but I have NO idea how to do any of it.

Could we use packet to control the plane??

Nope Tim , tooo many packets in air already and u might loose ur ticket too.
any sound card to packet interface like this could be used IMHO but i think FCC wll visit you and....... cheers
