HEXA runs away sideways instead of LAND

Im still getting my feet wet with the copter so I took it out on Saturday just to get a feel for it.  I setup a GeoFence of 40 meter diameter, 10 meters high for LAND 15 for RTL.

The copter for some reason was not behaving vey well, kept jumping into LAND on and off, but each time it would LAND or I re gained control of it and continued on my marry way.

I played with the modes things seem "OK" defiantly needs trimming still but Land went down, Loiter stuck around in the air.. etc.

Then out of no where I realized the copter started flying away. I realized it was in LAND mode, but instead of heading straight down It was flying away west faster then it was descending.

I ran after it, reset my radio and got control of the copter before it flew over a fence.

I pulled the data log and from what I see.

1) copters passes the 15m  mark in Stabilize
2) Switches to RTL
3) Seems to slowly make its way to Homeish, as it descends
4) Copter passes 10 meter mark and switches to LAND
5) after a few seconds the copter starts drifting west fairly quickly. In fact it was "drifting" west faster then it was descending.
6) managed to reset TX and re-gain control landing
Not quite sure where to go from here. It was a scary scenario.

Running APM 2.5
ublog gps and had 8-12 sats locked
Electronics mounted on 4 "rubber" spacer to dampen vibration

Any Suggestions?
