ICDWarn0020: Invalid target device id (expected=0x101, read=0x0)

Hello,

I bought the UAV dev board and the MPLAB ICD2 programmer. I am receiving the following message when trying to connect to the board:

ICDWarn0020: Invalid target device id (expected=0x101, read=0x0)

The programmer is working fine through USB and all self tests pass OK.

The UAV Dev Board works OK with the preloaded software without being connected to the programmer.

Do you know what could be happening and how can I get it programmed from the ICD2?

Thanks and regards.

Bill,

Thanks for your reply. I used the file from the link you provided, however, I still get the same error.
Khalid,

Oh, my, that is not good.... :-(

I have never seen this problem reported before, so it is very puzzling.

The next step is for you to contact MicroChip support. Send them the same information that you put in your posting.

Best regards,
Bill
Khalid,

This is going to drive me crazy until we figure it out. I hope that Microchip can help you.

While we are waiting for them to answer, there are a couple of things you can try.

I looked over the installation instructions from Microchip. They mentioned that the installation might ask you for a license key and that you should leave that blank. If you did not, then you should try again, and leave it blank.

The link I gave you should have worked, but now I wonder if it took you to the same place it took me, it might have been context dependent, so...

When you first installed the compiler, did you install the student evaluation copy? If not, try to find it and install it.

If the answers to the previous questions are that you did everything right in the installation, that you left the license key blank, and installed the evaluation copy of the compiler, there is one more thing you could try.

I noticed that you have a newer version of the compiler. You have version 3.20. I am running version 3.02. Perhaps the installation for 3.20 has a bug. If you want to try rolling back to an older version of the compiler, you can download it from the Microchip archives:

Bill,

LOL! You're just like me! I'm going to stay up all night and figure it out! :)

As for your questions, I have done each step exactly as you suggested. The only thing left to do is try the v 3.02 compiler. I'll let you know... Thanks for your help!
