If anyone has used/pushed their XBee Pro 900 (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9087) to the limit I would love to know some results. I am mainly looking for max altitude being that horizontal distance can be limited depending on terrain. I'm attempting to model some kind of low altitude satellite relay system for pushing information further from the ground station. Thinking about some of the following,

- Weather balloon (will eventually go too high?)
- Quad copter with position lock (would take a while to get into position, using alot of energy)
- Smaller UAV

Idea being, the system would hold at a specific location (where I would expect my radio to drop out) and act as a relay to get the information to the host UAV.

Ideas, experiences etc?

please could u tell me how setting up the xbee with Xctu? what values did u set?

thanks!

Franco - read the wiki.  It is explained there in some detail.

Matt - someone may have info relative to your question, but I suspect that most people's setups are not at all optimal for max altitude.  For example a monopole or dipole aligned vertically, which is the norm is exactly what you don't want for max altitude range.  On the other hand any information you find on max horizontal range can probably be applied to your problem if you change antenna types and polarization to be optimal for your use.

Yeah, I read the wiki but I have another firmware.. it´s XBP09-XSC 900 version 1022

and I have a USB explorer board and a Explorer regulated board on the aircraft side.

The Xbee explorer regulated board seems it has a voltage problem by default and is necessary jump a diode...but I dont know how to do that! any help please! some eschematic? pics?

I tried to replace the xbee explorer regulated board by another regulated board, and I can get the connection wiht Happy Killmore but is extremely rare connect with Mission planner... I dont undestand why.,.....

please some help with all this...

thanks!

Franco.
