Unable to get GPS fix using HK ground station or GCS Mavlink

Hey, i want to report a problem with the GCS. I have a APM with IMU and MediaTek? MT3329 . I cant get a GPS Lock.I upgrade the gps to latest firmware. From telemetry i read 8-10 satellites, but no GPS Lock. The leds were steady red and blue light.I disable (or enable in Mediatek v1.6) any heartbeat configuration but nothing. The same problem i found with APM Mission planner(latest version). I test with Qcontrol and GPS Lock looks fine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Nikos

Can you clarify if you're running APM or ACM2 firmware? The lock bit actually comes from the MediaTek as it's own parameter in the protocol. The last time I tested, it worked for me....so I'm wondering if there's possibly something wrong with your hardware? I don't know enough about how the GPS units work to say for sure....or if it's just a bit that gets set when satellites >=5 or something like that. I've been swamped with custom software for a customer and haven't had time to test.

Hi Happy, i running APM ( Ardupilot Mega v2)  and  test it  with Vista and win7 opera ting systems with same results.

Ok, I just got a chance to do some testing. I assume you're using an actual GPS and not my GPS Emulator, right? If so, as soon as the GPS clicks from 5 sats to 6 sats, the blue light on my GPS board goes solid (I have a really old board and I'm assuming this is how it still works)....and my GPS lock on my GCS goes from Not Locked to Locked.... and sats now shows 6.  Your lat and long values are showing 0.00000 so there's obviously something wrong here....what else can you tell me about your setup? Any chance you can take a pucture of your APM/IMU and GPS connected?
Thank you for helping me . I upload right now photo and video. Yes my GPS to , locked  from 5 to 6 sats the blue and red light going solid.

2 things.

1) I can't tell from the video, but you have the GPS plugged in to the APM board not the IMU board, right?

2) What happens when you connect using 115200 on the USB port instead of the X-Bee?

In the picture it looks like it's plugged into the APM, but the video looks like the GPS is connected to the IMU.
No the Gps is plugged into the APM no to IMU .
Happy K. I connect with USB @115200 (CLI-->Flight mode) . I take with 3 sats the Home position and with 6 sats GPS lock. The flight instruments looks fine, and i change the control modes and the flight plan without  problem.

what is the voltage and amp of your battery?

I had the same some problem with a receiver battery (a Futaba  - 4.8V) that diseapear when I connect a (real) LIPO with a BEC to the receiver or when I use the USB to supply power to the APM.,

Interesting Bertrand....that's something worth trying.

Nikos, which X-Bee are you using? 900Mhz or 2.4Ghz? When you click on the Serial Tab with the X-Bee's connected are there a bunch of unknown messages in the list? I see one in the screenshot above. The only thing I can guess is Bertrand's suggestion of more power? Maybe the GPS just isn't getting enough current to run correctly.

Hi  Bertrand , yes i use a 4.8V NiMh batt. What type of Lipo you use ? .  I try with 800mAh 3S1P with UBEC @ 5Volt , but still nothing .

Happy K, i use the xbee@2.4Ghz.

So can i connect the UBEC @ 6volts ?

I'm starting to think your GPS is no good. Do you have a USB to serial? Unfortunately, the GPS has that goofy little connector which means you have to do this: http://code.google.com/p/ardupilot/wiki/MediaTek
