When trying to load or verify 2.2.3 for the 406 gps I get this error
In function 'void stabilization()':
error: 'FLY_BY_WIRE_SPEED_SETPOINT' was not declared in this scope

what am i doing wrong?

Please upload a screenshot of your Arduino IDE with all the tabs open. It sounds like you've unpacked the files wrong.
Yes I think there was something wrong with the unpacking. I re downloaded 2.2.3 and it's seems good.
Also I now have the config utility working fine. What i done was to use a PC before I was using macpro laptop using XP on bootcamp.
Also chris reminded me about the port settings. Then it worked first time.
however Chris you had a comment at the top of the program saying it had been altered for 408 gps, this is not in the text anymore, which makes me wonder if I have the first version of 2.2.3
