Nothing really exciting has happened yet, just testing the APM 2.5 an getting the new body painted an prep'd for the chassis.

My biggest problem is I am on a partial budget for a short while an was trying very hard to not spend on something which wouldn't have worked. But now that I have some key questions answered, I am comfortable with moving forward with this purchase. It will be bone stock for short term, then I will start investing in obstacle detection an maybe find a way to use my Raspberry PI for determination if it can go over or around a obstacle.

Comment by John Moore on April 1, 2013 at 9:38pm Regarding posting on Rover Group, I have an had no luck. Which is why I posted here in the Ham group. Hoping for a better connection as I am a ham operator as well (2m code-less tech)
Now, I am moving forward an will be starting a thread of my build. My end result is to build a rover which will know when to crawl over or go around a obstacle.

Comment by John Moore on April 1, 2013 at 9:29pm Ahh, I understand your question. My transmitter has 2 toggles. One is a 2 position toggle an the other is a momentary toggle for setting an clearing waypoints once in Learning mode. The only issue I had was the ability to get into Learning mode (or any other mode I wanted).

Comment by John Moore on April 1, 2013 at 9:01pm Mike, per 3d Robotics, if you have Telemetry setup you can set any mode you want via a connected PC on the fly at any time. When I want to set it too learning, I can set that via my netbook an then toggle to auto or normal via my 2 position toggle.
This also means I can have more modes an not be restricted by my radio. Since I am building a rover, I would have been happy with a switch on the rover for these 3 modes.

Comment by John Moore on April 1, 2013 at 7:52pm For anyone else who wants to know this answer as they try to plan out their purchases, I have found out today that a 3 position toggle is not mandatory if you dont mind setting the mode (Normal/Auto/Learn) via Telemetry with a Laptop/PC.
Moving forward with my build, I will be keeping the DX5e an setting the 2 position toggle with Normal an Auto. I will set the APM into learn mode via my PC when needed.
Next weekends plan will be to get the new Receiver installed an purchase the APM 2.5 w/Telemetry kit as well as a FPV setup. Then start planning the install on my Crawler which is a Axial SCX10 Jeep Rubicon.
