Removing apm 2.0 shield

Has anyone removed the shield to allow remote location (for traditional heli)?Looks like it's possible to desolder the 6 pins (actually only 4 are soldered), and make an extension harness.Continue

MediaTek GPS and APM supply voltage, level shifter?

Started Oct 24, 2011 0 Replies

I'm wondering if a 3.3 to 5 volt level shifter would provide more robust serial communication between the GPS and APM.   I don't see one, looks like the tx/rx lines just go straight between the…Continue

Just documenting steps to get this set up, so as I don't forget.  Sorry but couldn't find a concise summary to fit my specific desire: do it on linux.      I'll clear this up in the wiki if I could…Continue

Where do you fly around here?  Wonder if anyone around here meets up fly or work on stuff. It would be neat if the advanced search in members would allow searching X miles from a zipcode.  So there…Continue

Hi 3Drobotics Team,      If future do you plan to provide just the daughter board - GPS. So people who want to use external GPS can just buy a new daughter board to use the GPS outside of fuselage?   Thanks

I don't know if I'm the only one this applies to, but when I read the blog post, I definitely came away with the impression that the daughterboard could be disconnected by the end user, in the same way that one might disconnect a shield…

Dale Just a thought on sourcing the header pins.  I'm not at home so can't measure the pitch required but the following link is close and there are plenty more to choose from on the site.  A better approach may be to ask…

Dale I've chickened out and moved the receiver, Xbee and MinomOSD from being over the APM2 board to various arms.  Not an option for you with your heli I guess. Best of luck with your setup. Graham

No I didn't yet, sorry.  I was looking at where to get the smaller pitch connector, might have something in the junk pile.

Dale Did you end up removing the shield?  Any tips?  I fully understand this would be at my own risk. The length of cables on my quad only allow the APM2 to sit on the bottom layer of my central electronics stack.  I'd…

Hi Tech Support,  thanks!  True diy spirit I think,  "it's not recommended and of course violates warranty, and here's how you might try it."

Hi Dale, The APM2 is not designed for the shield to be removed, and we do not recommend attempting to un-solder the shield. In the future, we will offer different options for the shield (check out Jordi's blog post here). Our guy here at the…

Seems nice, could be for Chrismas.  Someone has ordered it for me!!     Narrower board will fit inside 450 heli frame, APM 1.0 was slightly too wide to fit without modification of frame.   Inputs on one end and outputs on…

If you add separate BEC, caution if it puts out more than 5v, suspect it can make 3.3 vs. 5v serial signals from gps not work with the 5v side APM.   if it puts out only 5.0v, all should be good.   Oh I see now Montasser…

SPI between ArduPilot, ArduIMU, SCP1000

Posted on January 4, 2010 at 10:30pm 11 Comments

Finaallly tonight got this to work more completely. SCP baro sensor to IMU was not so hard. Getting IMU and Pilot to work was more trouble for me.

The layout I chose is: ArduIMU is spi master, SCP1000 and ArduPilot are slaves.

ArduIMU requests airspeed from the ArduPilot, it will be used in combination with the gps based speed in the IMU. It will send the resulting AHRS data to the ArduPilot, as a predefined message, with variables in a certain order. The IMU requests baro… Continue
