If you are gooood with a soldering iron, and have some very fine & sharp points for it, DO IT! I know you asked a while ago, but im posting incase anyone else reads this. The GPS units are (for the most part) generic modules produced by…

It only sprang to mind when I read a comment somewhere here within the community (I can't find it for love nor money now) that they'd experienced better performance by disabling the serial output. From a quick look at the atmega…

It's not clear to me that you'd get any performance improvement. The serial TX is handled by the hardware (UART) and we're well below the Xbee transmission capacity. It's also just not that much data--approx 1/5h as much as is…

Binary format for serial output?

I wondered if it might make sense to support both text (as it does now) and a "raw" TX method for the ArduPilot. With the "raw" mode you could save a few (possibly a lot as a %) bytes per transmission which could mean a faster rate of messages and less work for the chip to do (even if Serial TX is handled in the background).

"UAV support group" sounds like somewhere that down and out UAVs go to get help ;) On a serious note it's good to see the community spirit.

Hi Andre, As far as I understand the Ardupilot v1 code should adapt well to this. James

Be nice if you could just plug cameras/gps/something else into an onboard USB hub and go! Big ask.

Hacking a cheap bluetooth GPS unit?

I wondered if anyone had tried hacking a cheap bluetooth GPS receiver? There's no lack of them on eBay and with a bit of tinkering it should be possible to disable the bluetooth portion (in case of 2.4GHz interference) and find some kind of serial binary or NMEA output. If there was an easy hack I think it could work out cheaper than some of the standalone modules.See More

James Cohen commented on Tom in ON's blog post 'Low cost ($60) 2.4 G Computer Transmitter with Dual Receiver antenna question...'
Hi Tom, $60 sounds like a steal, it'd be good to hear how it performs. Antennas work best when their length is matched to the frequency they're working on (transmitters tend to be more sensitive . Doing some quick calculations for 2.4GHz…
