Actually the navigation and ground avoidance would be pretty easy on a phone or even an APM with enough storage.   For example in Canada, you can download Digital Elevation Maps that are fairly accurate, a 1:50,000 scale map is only 500kb (8m…

This is a good idea, but I think the real problem with the gopro is its aerodynamics.  I think somebody should design an aerodynamic FPV (or motorsports, etc..) case that will definately sell well!

If the main source of blur is turbulence, maybe increase the wing loading on your plane?  It will make it more stable.

If you're looking really at minimum size, maybe a co-axial heli would be better.  It means you'd have a smaller radius and you wouldn't need the tail rotor either. If you look…

Chris, what's the flight speed of your aircraft?  Maybe the blur could be reduced at low speed (30km/hr) and slightly higher altidue.

Hi, for some equations on power required, etc see the attached file.  Is it referenced for human-powered helicopters but has lots of good information and equations.   For small helicopter information, try scaling the Yamaha RMAX: it uses…

You shouldn't be inverting the matrix: http://www.johndcook.com/blog/2010/01/19/dont-invert-that-matrix/   If you post your current simulink model, maybe we can help (just a snapshot).  Try giving less authority to your learning…

Also I was just checking out an suasnews link and downloaded the PDF for Adaptive Flight's Horney electric heli:   On the 3rd page they have a picture of their GS, with the camera view and on the overhead map, they include the aircraft…

On something like an ultralight or glider it has already been suggested, just need to beef up those PWM outputs ;)

Would it be possible to add a script to follow a 'real-time-updated' gps coordinate?   IE: If I have a GPS tracker data stream input to my laptop, can the Planner have a 'follow' mode for that stream?

Jonathan Lussier replied to Limebear (Rob)'s discussion 'Thinking of fitting a relay...'
I agree... Also you'll need a 3-pole relay not a single-pole.  If you're going to put a relay, put in a solid state one between the battery and ESC (could be controlled by APM) and have a seperate battery + BEC to power the APM and…

Chris, that electric-powered aircraft is actually a Quickee Q1 (single-seat version of 1970's Rutan design).  Electric aircraft are feasible, even with 20hp.  There are some Cri-Cris flying electric (low range).  A smooth design…

Cheaper, simpler Oilpan

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 8:32am 14 Comments

I'd like to propose a new, cheaper oilpan with (much) cheaper sensors embedded.  The goal would be to have an oilpan (that probably couldn't be used for quads, but for gliders or some planes it would be OK) that is priced at around 30-40$ instead of 160$.  It would be pin-compatible with current oilpan.
Features (modified…
