The problem with using nylon fasteners is that will stretch over time. Sure they'll shear in a crash but I doubt that it would save much. I use steel hardware on my frames and lock nuts. I also don't use thin wall square tubing that…

I believe it was 6061 and I'll have to check old emails to see what the cost of the anodizing was. This was done on a CNC Punch by a company in Arkansas. They do great work.

NASA's successes far outweigh their failures. A lot of the current consumer electronics we use are a result of NASA research. What trash we leave on Mars is minute compared to what we have in Geostationary orbit around earth.
