The SN754410NE also seems a bit cheaper. The pinouts look the same, so I assume it's a drop-in replacement.

The new one can handle more power. Both work, but the SN754410NE has more safety overhead.

L293D vs SN754410NE

For the motor contorller (quad half-h driver) I notice in the shipping kit and in the published schematic, you use the L293D, but in the parts list you mention the SN754410NE. Why did you switch? Was there a problem with the SN754410NE?Thanks,-- MitchSee More

Check out (and recheck) each single wire with a multimeter. The Rx has to be plugged for the RC modes, else you'll have random behavior. Also check out your board with a lens to look for solder hairs eventually cross-connecting solder points.

RC mode detection flaky

I'm having a problem where it is very flaky about detecting RC mode.There are cases where no receiver is connected and it goes into RC mode, and cases where there *is* a receiver connected and it doesn't. If you haven't already ordered i would suggest ordering these. 10 servo leads for $5 delivered is hard to beat. With a scalpel and pliers i found they can easily be converted to Female to Female cables. Ill post pics if you are interested. Nick

I'm thinking that using 4 of these sensors rather than the ir detectors would make for some interesting behavior. I would probably need to tweak the code for the slower readout rate.
