"Under that is a 3/4 slot for the leadscrew. where you have the hole :) So we can use a special nut or ballscrew depending on what version you build."

"I guess we need to make the gib plate 1 screw longer on each end for the guide pins. They are there to make alignment easy. Very good Kevin your a natural! Because my drawing and instructions have been a bit veg but you catch on every time! :) "

Hobby ESC as a AC Servo controller?

Posted on May 27, 2012 at 2:31pm 28 Comments

Hey guy's AC servo controllers are expensive! I was wondering If I could reduce the cost of an AC Servo controller by using a Hobby ESC as part of the control for an AC Servo motor.

Basically I know an ESC can control the speed and direction of an polyphase motor (like the ones we use) and actually…

GPS Preamp for SDR

Ever see one of these? It's a "Raidosonde" I figure it cant hurt to tell you a bit about these. You can find them all over the world, about 2000 of these are launched on weather balloons every day. For those that use latex weather balloons this is what the balloons where made for. These send back atmospheric data like…

Cold Gas Thruster Help

Posted on May 23, 2012 at 9:00am 16 Comments

I've got a design using 12 cold gas thrusters such as these for attitude control and I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in such a project.

The thrusters are arranged in a ring such as this:…

WeedWacker UAV

I was given 4 weedwackers and at first I didn't know what I was going to do with them. I took one apart and said HEY this looks like a good engine for an airplane! Got to looking around on the net and sure enough I wasn't the first to think it would be a cool little RC engine.…

You guys are doing stuff that I SO want to do too!

I think it was about 2 years ago I drew up a sketch of a 3 balloon system with a self stabilizing platform to try to put a rocket into orbit :)  I might have it in my black book somewhere...

Monroe! I checked out your page You are the Rocket Man! I dabbled in rocketry back in the 1960's when the Apollo program was in full Swing  I forget what issue and year in the 1960's but it was either Popular Science or Popular Mechanics Had an article and diagrams of how to build your own rocket thruster engine it put out 15 lbs of thrust.(old timers might remember it)  I even designed and tried to build my own space ship It is a wonder I never blew myself up I made a pulse rocket that ran on auto gas and  liquid oxygen Argon pressurized the gas a shuttle valve that ran on the  exhaust from the rocket engine opened and closed injecting auto gas and oxygen into the mixing chamber that was fire by a spark-plug that was continuously sparking by a magneto that was driven by a geared fan that  ran in the  exhaust . I used 2 old fire extinguishers for fuel tanks it was  about 6 feet high and 4 fixed fins  there was no guidance system to get it to go we had to give it " A boost" we held the shuttle valve open and cranked an old hand crank magneto from an old phone  Gas and oxygen were coming out in a ball of fire it was gone . It went up about 6 feet went over on its side puffing out exhaust turned and went the "wrong way" back between two housed through a fence and into a hill and kept puffing until it burned it' self out .That ended my days of model rocketry  a lot of crap came with it . You are trying for space Right on! Have you thought about maby an Orbit?

Have a good day! Carl
