I have an answer for you.  You have married the technology of FPV with the art of film making.  You have asked this community which, in my opinion, is about autonomous flight to watch and enjoy those videos, which it does.  I for one…

My concern is that this site, which really is about autopilot and autonomous flight, not RC drones (i.e. radio controlled model aircraft) in general, is becoming a manual-fly quad copter and FPV site.  I guess it's up to the…

Trappy, your vidoes are great, of course.  But to keep it germane to this site, why not do a project with an autopilot?

This concept reminds me of Michael Crichton's book Prey.  In that case it was cloud of nano particles, or maybe MEMS, working in unison, but basically the same idea (I am so tempted to write more of a spoiler, but I'll hold off…

@Robert -- Thanks for the additional info.  I appreciate it.   @Mike -- I guess I'm guilty of perpetuating off-topic posts by responding to some, but I also commented recently to the web master (a.k.a. Chris) that I was seeing a lot…

@Davey -- Thanks for the info.  That would explain a lot.  I think I'll stick with traditional aircraft, at least in RealFlight!  :)

About Me:
Long time R/C enthusiast. Fascinated with UAVs. Knew that homemade UAVs were possible based on Maynard Hill's transatlantic flight, but had no idea how far along the DIY community has come in the meantime. Incredible.

To anyone who landed here from the link on my own web site, have a look around DIY Drones. I think you'll be amazed at what you find. It might not happen soon, but I hope to build my own DIY UAV at some point.

UAV Exhibit at the National Air and Space Museum

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 6:30am 13 Comments

It's all about expectations, I suppose, but even knowing that I have to admit disappointment.  We just got back from a visit to the National Air and Space Museum on the mall in Washington DC.  If you have never been there, you really need to go.  This isn't about the museum in general--we have been there many times. …

YADIYDRONE

This post might be a little premature in that I'm just getting started, but after hanging out at DIY Drones for a few years and doing little more than adding editorial comment to other's posts, I'm anxious to share my real DIY Drone project.  Since all of the hard work has already been done by others in this…

Smithsonian Acquires Model Airplane

Posted on December 20, 2010 at 5:57pm 3 Comments

I thought this article might be of interest to this community.  It starts:

"In September 2010 the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC vetted the TransAtlantic Model (TAM) and selected it as an historic artifact..."

The short article (letter, actually, from Maynard Hill) can be found…

Hi Paul,

I notice you live in Prior Lake, MN. I'm up in Circle Pines. All my gear is ripped apart right now after traveling to do a demo, but when I get it all back together and if we have a nice day at some point, I'd be happy to show you my setup in action.

Hi Paul,

I am located in Swarthmore, PA and interested in experimenting with some UAVs once the weather gets a little better. I saw that you created a York, PA google group and thought it might be worthwhile to meet up in the future... I have no previous experience with remote aviation but am eager to learn, pick up things pretty quickly.

Hi Paul

I really interest on you TWENTY YEARS OF MICRO TURBOJET ENGINE post. I'm beginner on that topic, but i try to make it work by my self. of course i will apply on my UAV drones, all this time we use JetCat. Now it's time to make it self. Ohh, by the way can you help me find of "boeing Bird of Prey" design? I really interest on that plane.
