Broken Gyro?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Andrew Robinson Jul 27, 2010. 14 Replies

I just put together my new APM + Oil Shield. I loaded the aeroquad and arducopter gui's and it seems my Gyro X and Y are not receiving good values. I also ran the ADC test example and the reading…Continue

"Well it appears that there is a bad connection on the resistor from the DTR pin on the FTDI chip. How bad would it be to remove the resistor and replace it with a solder jumper?"

"I don't have a standard FTDI cable. But the sketches do upload fine when I press the reset button on the APM. I think I will pull out the multimeter and start checking connections."

"Sounds like a possible soldering or board error with the shield. If you have an FTDI cable, you can load straight to the APM board. If that works, you'll know where the problem lies. There have been a few shields with bad resistor contact on…"

Mike Murphy replied to Ricardo Madera's discussion Flashing the bootloader?
"Yes I did. I just glanced through thte troubleshooting tips thread and feel it is worth mentioning that I am powering the APM and shield via the usb cable. Also I can load sketches to my Duemilanove."

"Did you check the "Clear RTS" box in the COM port, as directed by the manual?"

Mike Murphy replied to Ricardo Madera's discussion Flashing the bootloader?
"Ok, well it seems that my problem is not the bootloader. It seems that the ATMega does not reset itself when uploading a new sketch (DTR does not work). When I press reset on the APM the new sketch uploads fine, else the RX light just flashes until…"

"It only works with the Adafruit AVR programmer for me (not AVRISP II). It's a driver conflict thing....hopefully they'll get it sorted out in the next version."

Patrick Mccabe replied to Ricardo Madera's discussion Flashing the bootloader?
"I never was able to burn the bootloader on a atmega using the Arduino IDE. So i used AVR studio and found the bootloader hex file in the arduino folder and uploaded that and it worked fine on a atmega."

"I tried that very same thing but I still ran into the previously mentioned issue. I will give the makefile a look as I haven't tried that yet. Thanks, Mike"

"The Arduino IDE will do it for you. Just select "Burn Bootloader" from the Tools menu. FYI, the fuse settings are all in the makefile in the arduino-0018\hardware\arduino\bootloaders\atmega folder."

"I too am having problems with the bootloader. My problem is that my APM came from Sparkfun with out the bootloader loaded. I have reloaded it with my AVR Dragon in AVR Studio sucessfully as well as the Arduino ISP. My problem is, that the correct…"

Andrew Robinson replied to Ricardo Madera's discussion Broken Gyro?
"You might want to look into the ESCs. The ones I use are TowerPro 25As, modified to be I2C capable, but I wouldn't wish that modification process on anyone. A fellow around here sells modified ESCs for some mark up, you might want to consider…"

"Interesting, What ESC's are these? Im working on something similar to you XBees except that im using SunSpots instead. Their purpose would be to ease the configuration process by doing it wirelessly, and to run some vision algorithms using a…"

Andrew Robinson replied to Ricardo Madera's discussion Broken Gyro?
"I'm using modified ArduCopter w/ I2C ESC output and additional telemetry module I wrote for high speed binary-based XBee communication that I'm still tweaking. I've also played around with the vector library for speed. Tempted to…"

Ricardo Madera replied to Ricardo Madera's discussion Broken Gyro?

Andrew Robinson replied to Ricardo Madera's discussion Broken Gyro?
"Yes.. I've gotten an RMA number too. I suppose it'll be two weeks now until I see a replacement. :-/ I was really excited to fly too! A charge pump regulator is just a type of regulator, much like a LDO regulator such as the 3.3V fellows…"
