Fuse the ITG3200 with a mag to handle slow rotations. Will it compete with infinite budget 1960s military hardware? Certainly not, but it's still pretty fantastic for $12, compared to what we had 2 years ago.

Popularity alone doesn't make something good. Once you're past the learning curve, the ARM MCUs are far superior to AVR8.

The "grab debian deps" step fails with "E: Unable to locate package scicoslab-gtk" on Debian 6.0 amd64. I'm trying to build it from src but seems their git server is down..

I like the Easy Glider Pro w/ HobbyKing electronics. Probably costs 2-3X more than a HawkSky but way better quality, higher lift capacity, etc.

Great work, thanks for posting this John. To improve accuracy, we could store the high res data on a PC or cellphone and send relevant sections to the UAV as needed. Perhaps a MAVLink/QGC extension is in order.
