I installed my magnetometer recently and it seems to be working nicely when looking at the CLI test. havnt flown yet though. I was curious and decided to compare the magnetometer with a standard…Continue

Do you need a compass for loiter?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Kristian Jun 28, 2011. 3 Replies

I would think it is recommended but is it mandatory? Tried loiter today with 2.0.28 starts to make circles that get bigger and bigger and then it does a funky 180-360 degree spin that scares me! but…Continue

Hey I'm wondering how you made the landing gear? did you make a jig, heat it up and bend it?

True about the nylon hardware, but you'll find that they just need too much changing.  I used to have nylon hardware too, and that's what I found.  And when I switched to steel hardware,  and the centre plates were cracking,…

Thanks for all the compliments =)   @Ellison chan- Main reason for using nylon nuts and bolts throughout was to create failure points. its cheap and easy to just replace nuts and bolts. The way the frame is designed also makes it possible to…

Very cool!  Does the carbon give the gps any grief?  I used the plastic screws on the original frame legs and they broke many times, but saved the arms, I went to metal screws and there was less breakage but it was much more severe damage…

Nice build, and amazing results for the budget.  I noticed your motor wiring hanging out the end of the arms, part in and part out of that key slot.  A strong hit to the end of the arm might damage the motor wires, so when I used round ALU…

Not too bad in weight.  Indestructible, I have my doubts, for the following reasons: 1- Your props extend past the tubes.  Better to use longer tubes, and mount the motors so that the propellers don't extend beyond the end of the…

Is it important to mount the board directly in the center of a quad frame or can it be slightly off to the side. I would like to mount mine about 2 or 3cm off center.

Thanks alex! why would recommend the tube clamps though?   Dont mind sharing the motor models, The ones you see in the pic I got from grabCAD. They not the same as the arducopter ones. I have however made exact models them (AC2830-358, 850Kv),…

Looks cool, but I would suggest that you get some tube clamps, or get square arms, but otherwise seems nice.  Would you mind sharing your motor models with me, I think you did a very good job with them :)

HK does have tube clamps but always out of stock. The motor mounts cant turn as 2 of the 4 screws go through the boom. Where the boom meets the center part is exactly the same as arducopter v1 frame, one screw through arm and 2 on either side…

joints between tube and center part and motor mounts will not work. You will need some clamps to pinch tubes, otherwise they will fail under scews pression. Motor mounts could rotate in flight if tube fail, with distastrous consequences. The good…

Id still like to build one like Jose Julio's using kit parts, man that thing is indestructable. Great to learn earobatics=) The low inertia of the small quads is the main factor of its strength though. For now though, I need a…

I'm surprised there aren't a few more designs with some manner of safety cage.  You could at least create areas that would save the electronics and the props in the event of a failure.

My "indestructible" quad copter design.

Who am I kidding right? its almost impossible to design an indestructible quad copter frame! That's why this frame is actually the complete opposite. Its designed to fail!

This is nothing new. Most designs nowadays are designed to fail, but they are designed to fail correctly and safely. There is always something…

How do Brett, I'm just up the road in the Midlands, will be in UK in a month or so's time. I don't fly Ardupilot yet, but might just have one for fun when the mega grows up ;-) We use Attopilot.

Cheers
