Hi Natha, no you can't upload the actual ArduPilot software and test it with UAV Playground.

Hello, Newbie Question, I am planning on a UAV launch from a high altiude balloon, does this software allow me to upload the ArduPilot software into the UAV simulator and see the results? In other words can I test before buying the hardware and see…

Tom, it'll be possible to simulate quadrotors with UAVsim (UAV Playground) but I haven't planned it. Nobody has done it so far and it'll need some effort to do so.

@Jaron, thank you by all the infos. @Mark, seems to be very enjoyable. I will try to find the materials. Here, in Brazil, is easy to find high quality balsa, but I'm not sure about plywood. I need to find a good "translation" of the…

It's a regular folding propeller hub with a modification that prevents the blades from overlapping when they are folded. Have a look at my photos if you want to know how this is done. The blades I use are the Graupner CAM 8x4.5 (TURNIGY 28-36…

I grab all the files. :) It's really awesome. I never build a plane, but I will try this one. When shaping the wing, how did you doubled the plate without breaking it?

Android GCS/PFD (proof of concept)

Posted on July 11, 2010 at 10:00am 8 Comments

I played with an Android phone and UAV Playground and ported some of my GCS/PFD code.

Setup

- FlightGear flight simulator is controlled by UAVsim

- UAVsim receives FlightGear telemetry data and sends it to an Android device via Bluetooth

- Android device graphically displays the telemetry data

- Android device uses text to speech to announce telemetry… Continue

UAV inspired by maple seed

Posted on January 7, 2010 at 7:59am 7 Comments

Lockheed Martin has test flown the Samarai prototype UAV monocopter late last year. Its design is inspired by the maple seed and couldn't be more minimalistic.

It's got a 760 mm (30") wingspan, is electrically powered and was built by using off-the-shelf… Continue

Telemetry testing

I spent some time on the software for the ground control station lately and did some telemetry flights with my UAV Flying Wing.

Nothing special but I thought I'll post this anyway so people know that I'm still alive. The software is a… Continue

SimpleSerialization - serial communication for the Arduino/ArduPilot

Posted on June 5, 2009 at 1:30pm 15 Comments

I was searching for a way to exchange data between an Arduino/ArduPilot and a Java application. There are already several solutions to do this but none of them really met my requirements. So I decided to write a library that implements a mechanism called serialization/deserialization. The now called SimpleSerialization library allows you to define a data structure (or object) that will be converted into a stream which then can be sent via a serial… Continue

Hi Jaron. As a Swiss mate, I felt necessary to give you a hello from Fribourg!
Nice flying wing you're developing on.
Since we're not so far geographically, maybe there's some chance organizing some UAV meeting one day somewhere?
Where you're staying?

Hi Jaron and thanks for the information. I'll check that out. Just plain craze that it's 3xmore than in the US!!!
Well not more than in North America! In the meantime I checked it out. It's the same as on RoboShop.ca where it is around 45USD. I'll definitely order that one. Thanks

Jaron, Chris is preparing a shield with mounted sensor which will be around 25USD. Should be in a month or so. I'll certainly want to check that one out before getting another one.

Hi Jaron, im very impressed with you UAV playground and i am trying to create something similar with support for Google earth like you have done but i am not sure i can use because of the network link refresh interval. Have you found a way to make it refresh faster than 1hz? or is that just a limit imposed by google earth?

Regards
Nick

You are right, it is not available in the U.S. yet. I was afraid of that when I couldn't find it when i was looking it up. Now it looks like I will have to pick up one when I'm abroad or import one or maybe even wait for it to come out in the U.S. Thanx for the help. UAV playground looks cool, i hope to try it out soon!
