An official UAV airport in Wales

In rural Wales, a runway and a 500-square mile airspace for unmanned craft is opening. The British Army's Watchkeeper WK450, pictured above, will use the runway for test flights.

The Welsh government wants to attract aviation firms to test experimental drones to fight fires and count whales.

Now, how about private individuals and educational facilities? Is this a one-off or the beginnings of officially integrating automated flying machines into the rest of the air traffic?

  • This is South Wales mate, we get sun for one day 3 times a year, and the chances are I would be at work when it happens :)

  • how about solar powered one ;)

  • If I could invent Li-Po's with that much capacity i would be a very rich man. If someday they do, i will set you up as a waypoint :)

  • man looks u are in tricky spot :), may be u consider sticking to grounds of local flying clubs....if they exist. Btw i live possibly 150 miles from the location, do let me know when u fly over my place ;)

  • Hi Anish M.

Perhaps I will reconsider then. The issue now is I'v got this new secure area one way, RAF St Athan to the other, I'm running out of space to fly :)

  • Go for it and expect knocks on the door :)
  • I live about 20 miles from here! Do you think they will mind if i send my UAV to watch their UAV?
