I thought this article might be of interest to this community.  It starts:

"In September 2010 the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC vetted the TransAtlantic Model (TAM) and selected it as an historic artifact..."

The short article (letter, actually, from Maynard Hill) can be found HERE.

I have known maynard 33 years, met him when I was 6 and he and Andy Kane of DCRC helped me to learn to fly R/C - He is one of a kind and this is a great honor for his long history of record breaking flights in the model aircraft arena. Way to go Maynard!!!

For anyone not familiar with Maynard Hill and his TAM aircraft, there a number of posts on this site with links to off-site articles.  Just search "Maynard Hill" on DIY Drones.  In brief, Maynard Hill is a pioneer in the arena of do-it-yourself drones.

Less than ten years ago this flight makes you realize how far we have come. Now you can buy the electronics here ready to fly. If you feel like flying across the Atlantic, you might want to read this first.
