3689510157?profile=originalI´m going to start testing Roberto´s New VrDroidRC Android app.

To have a platform where I can use my Nexus 7 tablet as a combined Ground Station and radio (using AndroPilot or VrDroidRC), I have made a combined Nexus 7 dock and enclosure to mount the electronics.
Maybe later VrDroidRC have telemetry and FPV support, so I don´t have to use AndroPilot ?

Here I have mounted a G10 plate and some 30mm standoffs on the back of a Nexus 7 protective back-cover

3689510096?profile=originalFrom the other side (I´m using an ASSAN TX module in my test setup)
In the other hole I plan to Mount a display showing my TX LiPo status

3689510193?profile=originalRunning Roberto´s great app :-)

As it is now, it can be used as a mobile AndroPilot ground station (only need an USB OTG cable between the 3DR telemetry radio and the Nexus 7 tablet).

I´m waiting for some Components that I need to make Roberto´s OpAmp adapter that is needed to Connect the TX module to the mini-jack on the tablet.

I also need a battery (plan to use a 9,6V LiFe Tx battery) to Power the TX module + an 5V UBEC to get 5V for the OpAmp module.

I have used a small USB hub between the Nexus and the 3DR radio, so now I have 3 free USB if I want to test other modules..

I´ll continue when my OpAmp adapter is ready - showing how I made it..

When it is ready, I plan to test The App controlling a quad in a SIM, and if it Works my next test is controlling a Q-BOT micro quad.

Use this forum thread to discuss The app

Sorry about my bad speling..

    Hi James,

we are working on app and it will be available in a weeks on  Google Play for beta testing .

So we are try to implement a good user feedback experience ... So when you put the finger on the screen recenter the center of pitc/roll control , but mantain throttle respect of last position set.

Then we implement a feedback that use vibro and also second audio channel for throttle ... when will be ready the app and google play mini site we prepare also an video tutorial.

    Best

    Roberto

  • Hi James,

I have not tried flying via the app yet. Only tested that the app starts and works without any problems. The app re-center the stick at the position where I put down my fingers.

In my first live tests I plan to use a Q-BOT micro quad form HobbyKing (in backorder  )

  • Have you tried flying via that?  In my android app I have a similar soft joystick setup but it's extremely hard to fly well with it.  In a lot of android games when you put your finger down they recenter the joystick at that location which might help a small bit.

  • In my first "live" test, I plan to use this micro quad (Q-BOT). If Lucky, it´s possible to connect it Direct to the mini-Jack without using an extra battery.. (The Q-BOT TX module have a battery)
My Q-BOT is in backorder With HK, so I have to wait until it arrives.

  • Perhaps you could use a TX module which has antenna port in the side, like this.

    SUPER-LINK 2.4 GHz TX Module CW-8
SUPER-LINK 2.4 GHz TX Module CW-8 from manufacturer , in category RF Module / Receivers & Accy, Radio Sets.

  • If anyone have found a "simple" way to use an Android tablet to show FPV video, I´m interested.

It may be possible to include a FPV RX module in the same enclosure?
