Murray Spoelstra replied to Tew Jing An's discussion Budget folding frame for quadcopter
"Thanks Steve, I found that size is able to deal well with typical wind conditions and allows for the large silent props. Still fits in smallish toolbox with controller etc.
Selling kits not on my agenda. Would be cheap kits and need large orders to…"

"Hi Glenn, I haven't changed the design since 2013. It is still in the config as shown on page 12 of this blog. This config is better than the original, because it protects the battery and the half-pool noodle at the bottom gives extra crash…"

"To Glenn, thanks for the picture, I think it looks great!! I'm curious whether the GPS/Compass? on the pedestal helps to prevent compass drift on long distance auto flights? As I mentioned before, it normally can tend to drift when flying in a…"

"First to Zaozhi Gao: Sorry, but somehow I only see your great build now after more than 3 years! Well done, hope you could get your center of gravity sorted and kept the weight down."

"I use center board 198 x 76.2mm to allow for some manufacturing tolerances. Arms lengths are 258mm.
On page 12 of this blog you can see more dimensions on drawing done by mdrm. Also picture of the current configuration I am still flying of this…"

Murray Spoelstra commented on Dennis Okeefe's blog post Using my APM as a data logger for a dragster....
"We did something similar recently building a data logger for aircraft.Have a look at http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/apm-as-a-flight-data-recorder

In short, if you want to log data onboard for extended periods, get a Pixhawk. We also learned a…"

"Thanks Stephen, I'll look into that option. Sounds like quite a lot of hardware though that could start interfering with the compass in the box.
Can't I just write code to redirect the onboard logging to one of the spare serial ports where I connect…"

"Interesting to see these other applications for the APM. I'll be sure that there is a reliable manual overide before I let the APM control the plane I'm in though!
We are still working on a good solution to record data of flights longer than 20min…"

"I just did my first upload to droneshare. Hope this link is sufficient for you to view the log file:

Could the high airspeed (around 100 knots) be the problem?"

Murray Spoelstra commented on Murray Spoelstra's blog post APM as a flight data recorder
"Hi Andrew,
Yes I have logs although it is quite a large file as the flight was about 2hrs. GPS velocity was correct I think, as it plots accurately in Google maps and I use a Ublox GPS. I can upload to droneshare if you are interested.
What wasn't…"

Murray Spoelstra commented on Murray Spoelstra's blog post APM as a flight data recorder
