About Me:

I am a private pilot (PP,MEL,MEI) and have done a lot of professional work with RF modems and high speed data links.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

So far, I've worked with the EasyStar platform, Dragon DOSD+ and now the ArduPilot Mega. Very impressed with Mission Planner and can see a lot of potential in the combination.

Andy Demartini replied to li bo's discussion About v2.76 automatic navigation error in ArduPlane User Group
"I also saw this message when a changed flight plan was loaded into APM 2.75, followed by switching from manual to automatic mode.  This would suggest a problem with replacing a flight plan or altering steps.  The only way I found to clear this…"

Andy Demartini replied to Antonio Alfaro's discussion X8 take-off using catapult in ArduPlane User Group
"Antonio,
We made several tests this morning with our EZ Star "testbed" plane.  This uses the same (APM 2.75) firmware but does not have the size risk of the X-8.
Prior to starting, I ensured that we were using the same parameters you listed…"

Andy Demartini replied to Antonio Alfaro's discussion X8 take-off using catapult in ArduPlane User Group
"I have been trying this with a X8 and something appears to have changed in the recent firmware.  AutoTakeoff was working earlier this year, arounf the March timeframe.  It stopped working reliably when the firmware was updated to ArduPlane Ver…"

As of the more recent versions of ArduPlane, the firmware no longer does an automatic level on startup.  Instead, that has become one of the initial startup steps when installing it in a new plane. In the past, I have glued a bubble sight onto the…

Andy Demartini replied to Tom Gilmour's discussion ArduPlane Level Calibrate Accel Greyed out. Can't see Manual Level option
"Removing the Mission Planner's manual leveling ability was not an oversight, it appears to have been directed by "Tridge" from the developers group.  Here's his email to Michael Osborne telling him to disable that ability in MP --

"Hi, I am also having this problem.  I have a new, unflown APM2.5 and just loaded 2.74b firmware.  The box is sitting level on my bench but starts up reporting node up of 0.2 units and left roll of 2.2 units.  I've tried a reset to clear any old data…"

"Toby,
Thanks for commenting, I have seen your videos and that's part of what made me start to research the topic.  As you know, the difficulty is finding a cellular-based IP device that also has a serial input.  Not exactly your common…"

This 3G modem has caught my attention as a real possibility to become a "component" replacement for the "XBee" and "3DR" class telemetry radios most of us are using.  It comes from Cooking-Hacks.com, you can see the catalog page here…

"Carl,
Here are some pictures of how your 3DR radio box came out.  I downloaded the .stl file from thingiverse.com, then uploaded it to shapeways.com and they made it into a nice precision part set.
The only change I plan is to use a small piece of…"
