Dale replied to Dale's discussion Oilpan AD335 accelerometer failed?
"It was able to be fixed!    Instead of a new oil-pan, I ordered a hot air rework / solder station, only about $90, and it works nice.  Way good for shrink tubing, and the solder iron heats up very fast.  (I did open it up and double check inspect…"

"How do the motors sound so cool and quiet?  Is it the isolation from the arm mounts?  Or are they big heavy motors and they look like pretty low kv?"

Dale replied to Josh Potter's discussion Some newbie power questions
"I had seen Roberts setup before, and looked also at others. Theres a Skookums item for this purpose.
I made a small power distribution block for the servos, from a right angle 3x7 header. Connect the two shorter rows together with wire/solder, these…"

Dale replied to Dale's discussion Oilpan AD335 accelerometer failed?
"Touched up the solder on the x y and neighboring pins.  now the y axis works normal again.   But the x axis output seems shorted to ground.  At the pins on the ADC, the y and z are 1.6 +- now, but the x is 0."

We have here a Hotel 1.0 oilpan 8/19/2010, on a 2560 APMega.    :>( It has worked fine for a few flights on a plane, and have been setting up now in a 450 heli.  It seemed to be working correctly until tonight... Have done only a few run ups on the…

Dale replied to G. Timothy's discussion EM406 connector for use between extender cable...
"You probably solved it by now, but if for nothing more than my own future reference:
They look like JST SR connectors,  http://www.jst-mfg.com/product/pdf/eng/eSR.pdf"

Has anyone removed the shield to allow remote location (for traditional heli)?Looks like it's possible to desolder the 6 pins (actually only 4 are soldered), and make an extension harness.

Dale commented on Jordi Muñoz's blog post Please welcome ArduPilotMega 2.0!
"Seems nice, could be for Chrismas.  Someone has ordered it for me!!

Narrower board will fit inside 450 heli frame, APM 1.0 was slightly too wide to fit without modification of frame.   Inputs on one end and outputs on other, seems nice.  Smaller…"

Dale commented on Matthew Coombes's blog post ArduRex 450 - Setup
"If you add separate BEC, caution if it puts out more than 5v, suspect it can make 3.3 vs. 5v serial signals from gps not work with the 5v side APM.   if it puts out only 5.0v, all should be good.   Oh I see now Montasser mentioned this."

Dale replied to Montasser Wahid's discussion Telemtry issue in ArduCopter (traditional heli) user group
"Sounds like you've solved the issue, supply the system with only 5 volts,  or supply the APM with a little higher voltage and use the regulator on the APM to give the APM 5 volts.

Here's why the input voltage may matter.
The main 1280 or 2560…"

Dale commented on KG's blog post BoardX: The Open Source Miniature Motherboard
"The header pin connections should be as good as between APM and Oilpan,  or between xbee & adapter boards.   Or looks like something to build a ground station out of, so no vibration there usually."

Dale replied to Andre S's discussion MediaTek (or its adapter board) temperature sensitive?
"Is it possibly a voltage issue?  What is the voltage level of the APM board?   If the 5v supply voltage on the APM is high enough, maybe the serial communication high signals from the 3.3v (or lower if the GPS regulator is drooping) GPS may not…"

"Thanks!  Save me some measureing I hope.  I'm making a deck for bixler.
I think maybe will make a glass/epoxy collar, bonded to the amputee nose, and tight fit over the first 1 inch of fuselage stump,  then rubber band or interior velcro to hold it…"
